Q: I am going to rent my Italian property for short periods, like weekends or a week. The tenants will mainly be non Italians booking online their stay. Do I have to put in place a rental contract? Is the tenancy subject to any formality?
A: The tourist property rental is not subject to any specific regulation. If the rental is shorter than 30 days no rental contract registration is due. Also no 48-hour notice to police station is required.
Depending on the rental amount, the owner might be required to mention it in the Italian annual income tax return.
