Q. What if a non-Italian owning an Italian property who has money in an Italian bank account dies without leaving a valid will?
A. When someone dies without a will the succession is regulated according to the national law of the deceased party. However, when the national law is not the Italian law and refers back to the law where the assets are (for example this happens with the UK and US succession rules regarding real estate), the Italian law applies. Exceptions might apply.
