Q Question: How long does it take to become an Italian resident after I file the Italian residence application?
A Answer: If your Italian Residence application is complete and accurate you shall be registered as a resident starting from the date of your application.
Within a couple of days after you file the Italian residence application you should be able to apply for and obtain your residence certificate (certificato di residenza).
However, bear in mind that you might expect the Municipal Police to check your address to verify that you are actually living there. This should happen ones or twice within 45 days after your Italian residence application.
After successful inspections by the Municipal Police you will be entitled to apply for an Italian photo ID, “Carta di Identità”, showing also your Italian residence address.
Also, bear in mind that in order to apply for Italian residence you need to meet certain requirements. If you are not a EU citizen you might need a Permit to Stay. If you are a EU citizen CLICK HERE for more information.
