Before starting, let’s look at some definitions to familiarize yourself with the lingo used in Power of Attorney documents:

• Power of Attorney: also referred to as “PoA”
• Principal: the person who will sign the PoA (in other words, the person who needs to be represented). More than one Principal can sign the same PoA document. For example, two or more siblings, or two spouses, can sign the same PoA document to sell or to buy the same property
• Representative: the person/s who shall act on behalf of the Principal. You can have one or more Representatives represent you. If you have more than one Representative, you can decide if they shall have joint powers, meaning they shall all be present to represent you, or if they have individual powers, meaning that each of them has individual authority to represent you even without the involvement of the other/s Representative/s
• PoA signing location: the Principal can freely decide where to sign the PoA, anywhere convenient for the Principal. A PoA does not necessarily need to be signed in the country where it needs to be used, neither in the country of citizenship or in the residence of the Principal
• PoA destination: the Italian city/town where the PoA shall be used; normally the town of the Representative’s home or office. This service is only meant for PoAs to be used in Italy
