Question: I need to address my IMU tax obligations regarding my Italian property. Also, I forgot to pay my past IMU tax and I would like to pay it along with whatever fine is applicable for late payment. How do I calculate it? How do I pay it?
Answer: On the web there are some free online IMU calculators (see below) to determine the due amount. Once you know how much to have to pay you can download online the standard tax payment form F24, complete it and pay it via online Italian banking, at any Italian bank, or post office. Some Comune offer direct bank transfer and display the necessary information on their website. Or you can hire a professional or property management service to take care of it on your behalf.

Please note that since 1 January 2020 there is no longer a distinct payment for Property Service Tax (TASI) as it has been incorporated into the Ownership Tax (IMU). However, if you missed the TASI payment in 2019 or before, TASI is still due for those years.
IMU is a personal tax.
This means that if a property is owned by two or more people, each has an individual obligation to comply with IMU tax duties. In other words, the law requires that each owner makes his/her own IMU respective ownership share. This applies to spouses as well, if both their names are on title.
