On October 18, 2009 Partner Federica Metta, fourth generation of lawyers at Studio Legale Metta, was admitted to try cases at the Court of the Romana Rota (Vatican) and the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Tribunal of the Roman Rota, which is the highest appellate tribunal of the Roman Catholic Church.
This is the oldest legal system still in use today.
The swearing in ceremony was held in Rome, in the Room of One Hundred Days in the historic Palazzo della Cancelleria, headquarters of the Roman Rota and the Apostolic Signatura, property of the Holy See. Most Rev. Antonio Stankiewicz received the oaths in Latin from 13 lawyers coming from 4 countries.
Today, Federica is part of the small circle of Rota lawyers; there are currently only about two hundred in the world. The Roman Rota is an institution that dates back to the 14th century and Federica represents the new generation of lawyers in that she is among the youngest ever, 29, and female.
